Order Out of Chaos: How God’s Light Brings Clarity, Direction, and Grace
Dear family members, relatives, close friends, and acquaintances,
This week I spent time reflecting on how God demonstrates His goodness from the very beginning of Scripture. The first chapters of Genesis reveal something profound about the character of God. Before anything was formed, the earth was described as formless, empty, and covered in darkness. There was no structure, no direction, and no clarity. Yet the first action recorded is God speaking light into existence. Light enters the darkness, and suddenly what was chaotic begins to take shape. Day separates from night, land from water, and life begins to flourish. God’s presence transforms confusion into order.
This pattern continues throughout the entire biblical story and even within our own lives.
Wherever God’s presence enters, chaos begins to organize itself. Confusion gives way to understanding. Direction appears where there was once wandering. In spiritual terms, God’s light does not simply brighten darkness—it exposes it, confronts it, and ultimately replaces it.
We see this early in the story of Adam’s family.
Humanity quickly moves from the beauty of Eden into jealousy, conflict, and tragedy between brothers. Yet even there, God continues to intervene with justice and mercy. Though people repeatedly fail, God continues to guide, correct, and preserve life. His goodness does not disappear when humanity struggles; it remains steady even when we fall short.
Personally, I have come to recognize how little I once understood about God until I began seeking His Word for myself. As I studied and reflected on Scripture, something became clearer: God consistently acts with fairness and righteousness. His decisions are never careless or unjust. Again and again, He promotes goodness over evil. Even when people resist Him, He continues to extend opportunities for correction and restoration.
Like many of us, there have been times when I promised God that I would do better—to be good, to act rightly, to live according to His ways—only to discover my own weaknesses. Yet what stands out in the message of Christ is that failure is not the end of the story. Through Jesus Christ, grace remains available to those who fall short. Scripture reminds us that all have fallen short of the glory of God, yet grace continues to be offered.
Christ represents the ultimate expression of God’s goodness. He brings light where there is darkness, forgiveness where there is guilt, and hope where there is discouragement. Through Him we are reminded that transformation is always possible. God does not abandon those who sincerely seek Him; instead, He patiently guides them back toward truth and goodness.
This week, I want to remind myself—and share this encouragement with each of you—that God is gracious. His grace is not limited to a select few. It extends to you, to me, and even to those who struggle to believe or who reject the message of salvation offered through His Son Jesus Christ. The generosity of God’s grace is far wider than our human expectations.
Because of this, I want to challenge myself and encourage all of us to practice the same spirit of grace toward others. Each of us will cross paths with people carrying burdens we cannot see. Some may be discouraged, confused, or even acting harshly out of their own struggles. When those moments arise, we have an opportunity to reflect the goodness that God has shown to us.
Let us choose this week to offer grace to anyone God places in our path. Let us respond with patience when irritation would be easier. Let us show kindness when it is least expected. And let us demonstrate goodness not only when it feels natural, but especially when it requires effort and compassion.
When we do this, even in small ways, we participate in the same pattern that began in Genesis—bringing light into darkness, order into confusion, and hope into difficult situations.
May this week be an opportunity for each of us to reflect the goodness that God has consistently shown to us through Christ.
With encouragement and goodwill,
Johnson Jean
